Lip Lift Surgery

Board Certified Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons

At New York’s Facial, Plastic, Reconstructive and Laser Surgery, lip lift surgery, or a subnasal lift, is a popular procedure among our Hudson Valley patients. As we age, in addition to losing volume, the upper lip droops, becomes elongated, and the vermillion, or red part of the lip, rolls inward. This results in the loss of youthful definition and proportion of one’s lips. Patients often attempt to compensate for these changes by applying lipstick above the red portion of their lip. Lip lift surgery improves the appearance of the upper lip and restores healthy lip proportion.

Who is a Candidate for Lip Lift Surgery?
Healthy patients who desire more attractive, luscious, full lips may be perfect candidates for a lip lift surgery.

What is Recovery like from Lip Lift Surgery?
A lip lift, or subnasal lift, is performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia or light sedation, depending on the patient’s preference. Tiny incisions are created in the natural skin crease between the base of the nose and the upper lip. A small amount of skin and soft tissue are removed. Sutures are then placed gently to elevate the upper lip to a more youthful position. It can be done alone or in combination with a facelift.

This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis with most patients returning home within a few hours. There is minimal discomfort and many patients do not require prescription pain medication. Mild bruising and swelling may last about one week. Sutures fall out on their own or are removed at a one week follow up appointment. Makeup and other cosmetic products may be used near and on the lips after the sutures are removed. Most patients return to work or physical activity in about one week. Our experienced surgeons reduce bruising and recovery time with the application of state-of-the-art techniques. Detailed postoperative and aftercare instructions will be provided to each patient.
